A figure in a long cloak and trilby hat walked along an old street. She stoped and looked up, showing facial features and red hair. She looked at the sign post. 5th street. The damned place she'd lived for five years of her life, al lthat time spent in misery. She continued walking, stoping at a small alley. She remembered that alley, what happened there, how it ruined her entire life...
A young girl and her parents where walking through 5th street. The young four year old had begged to come along with her father to work, and her mother decided to come along to for safe measure. The father was dressed in a nice grey suit, wearing the trilby hat he always wore when he went to work. He was a traveling salesman, a life the young girl admired and looked up to him for it. He visited a new place every day, meeting new people.
"Honey, where are we going?" The mother asked.
"Not sure, never been to this part of town before..." He answered.
"I'm gonna get ta see ya work Daddy?" The young girl asked.
"Of course!" The father answered with a smile. "Just as soon as we find a way out of here..." they walked down the street, even back then being in disrepair, and came to an alleyway.
"I'll bet we can cut a good five minutes from our trip if we cut through the alley..." The father said.
"I don't know dear, it seems like a bad part of town, I would trust the alleys here..." The mother warned.
"Oh relax, I'm sure its fine..." He said. And with that, they continued down the alley.
"Oh crud, its a dead end..." The father said. Suddenly, a man jumped out from behind a dumpster, trapping them in the alley. It all happened so fast, the poor little girl didn't even know what was going on. She heard a loud bang, saw her fathers hat fly in the air, and her mother screaming.
"CLOSE YOUR EYES CO-" The mother started to scream, the little girl shut her eyes as tight as she could, another loud bang was heard, and with that, it was over...
The girl opened her eyes to see her mother and father lying still in the alley.
"M-Mommy? D-daddy?" She asked. She walked over to her fathers body and picked up his hat off the ground. "D-Daddy?"
NOW...
The girl snapped out of her memory, tears in her eyes. She continued walking along the road, coming to a nearby orphanage. The orphanage brought more memories...painful ones...
The little girl was sitting wueitly in the office, just like every week. Another family wanted to adopt her, but would probsbly end up changing there mind.
"So little girl, what kind of things to you do for fun?" The husband of the couple said.
"I haven't had any feeling remotely close to 'fun' for a whole year..." The girl answered emotionlessly.
"Why do you wear that hat? You do know its a mens hat, don't you?" The wife asked.
"It belonged to my father..." She said, a slight hint of crying in her voice. An hour later, the couple left, without her. Same as always. The families would never take her, usualy atributing it to "shes just plain wierd"...
"It realy is a shame..." A woman said outside the office. "We found that poor girl wondering alone in the streets with nothing but the clothes on her back and that hat..."
"I hope she finds a family..." The wife said.
NOW...
The girl continued along the orphanage, eventualy coming to the palyground. So many more painful memories happened here. She walked over to the monkey bars, possably one of the places she was most hurt at this retched orphanage...
The little girl sat under the monkey bars, staring at a young boy across the palyground and sighing dreamily. He was the ONE boy that caught her attention, and the one kid that never picked on her...
"Hey look! The freaks just sitting there!" One of the boys said and walked over. "What are you doing FREAK?!" He asked, kicking sand in her face.
"I'm sitting down, I ahven't bothered you all day Jerry, can you just please leave me alone?" She said in a ratherer bored tone.
"Just your EXISTENCE bothers me..." The boy, named Jerry, said. More kids gathered around the little girl and started teasing her...
"She's realy WIERD..." Said one girl. "She ALWAYS wears that stupid hat!"
"And she never talks to any of the other kids!" Another girl said.
"So waht were dyou doing over here hat-girl?" Jerry asked.
"None of your business..." The girl said.
"I saw her staring at that other freaky kid!" One boy said.
"You mean Clyde?" Jerry said. "That kids almost as wierd as her!"
"Just because he speaks differently doesn't mean he's wierd..." The little girl said.
"Are you kidding?" Jerry said. "that means he's REALY wierd!"
"At least he actualy has thoughts running through his head, something your lacking Jerry..." The little girl said.
"Waht did you say?!" Jerry said.
"I'm sorry, I was implying your an idiot..." The girl said.
"YOU LITTLE BITCH!!" Jerry said and pushed her into the sand. Everyone gasped.
"J-Jerry, you can't hit a girl!" One of the boys said.
"This FREAK isan exception..." Jerry said and started kicking her. "Whos an idiot now?! Why wher eyou defending tat other freak anyway? Wait, you like him DON'T YOU?! Thats it isn't it!! The freak likes the other freak!! AHAHAHA!!!"
There mocking laughter, the facted that Clyde can obviously hear everything thats going on, and the pain of Jerry continuing to kick her all combined into a mixture of pain and embaresment. Suddenly, a lout THWOCK was heard, the little girl looked up to see Clyde holding a stick and Jerry lying on the ground clutching his head in pain.
"Leave the girl alone..." Clyde said. "Your calling HER a bloody freak? While YOUR the one whos actualy kicking a poor girl over and over whiile shes on the ground? We may be freaks, but I'd rather be a freak then a bloody thug ANY day!"
"You have some nerve you little-" Jerry began but was interupted by another smack on the head with the club-like stick Clyde had.
"Let me finish..." Clyde said."YOU are the one with the nerve. Or rather, the one without. Picking on a girl three years younger then you is about as low down on the bar as you can get..."
"Oh your gonna get it when I-" Yet another interuption from a smack in the head.
"When you what? Get up?" Clyde said. "That may be, and I'll WELCOME the beating, so long as I ahve the knowledge I helped this poor girl out when the rest of you sat back and whatched..."
Suddenly, Jerry somehow managed to get up and pushed Clyde to the ground. About half an hour later, he was beaten and bruised and lying on the basketball court floor in pain. The little girl walked up to him.
"I-I'm so sorry..." She said. "You would've never gotten beat up if it wasn't for me...y-you must hate me now..."
"Quite the contrary..." Clyde said. "I got these injuries of my own fault, I knew what would happen if i did what I did, but I did it anyway..."
"B-But why?" The girl asked.
"Well..." Clyde said. "Someone had to help you out, Love..."
"L-love?" She asked, blushing slightly. Clyde, upon realising this, blushed slightly too.
"Not that kind of love..." Clyde said.
"O-oh..." She said. Just then, she remembered Jerries proclamation earlier of one of her deepest secrets. Realising Clyde most likely heard it, she blushed and ran away.
"Where are you going?" Clyde asked, but was never answered. The girl never saw him again...
NOW...
She continued walking along the playground, and came to the Jungle Gym...
"GIVE IT BACK!!!" The girl shouted, tears in her eyes.
"Oh dear..." Jerry said, holding the girls trilby hat just out of her reach. "The little hat girl lost her hat! AHAHAHA!!!"
"PLEASE GIVE IT BACK!!" The girl pleaded.
"Nah...I don't think I will..." he said. "I think I'll throw it in the fireplace..."
"NOOOO!!!!!" The girl screamed and jumped onto Jerry and started punching him, tears in her eyes. The teachers came and yanked her off of him.
"GEES!! Shes crazy!" Jerry said. "If shes here we'll all be killed!! WHY DON'T YOU JUST GO!!" And with that, the girl grabbed her hat and ran out of the orphanage, never to return...
NOW...
The girl sat underneath the Monkey Bars like she used to, thinking of her past. Suddenly, someone shouted.
"Hey! Who are you?"
The girl looked up to see a man wearing a burglary uniform and carrying a cane.
"No one...I just...used to live in this orphanage..." She answered.
"Ah, same here..." The man said. "Lots of painful memories about this place...can't remember a bloody good memory I've EVER had here...well...there is ONE..."
"I don't even have one good memory about this place..." The girl said.
"And yet cruel fate has lead us back to this old place..." The man said, sitting on the steps to the back door of the orphanage.
"You said you had one good memory here, mind sharing?" The girl asked.
"Not at all..." The MAN said. "Well, the simpliest wayI could put it is, I got the crap beaten out of me that day..."
"How is that a good memory?" The girl asked.
"Ah, but it was WHY iI got beaten up..." The man said. "The orphanage bully was picking on a young girl about myage, so I decided to stop him. Long story short, the fight didn't end to well..." The girl froze.
"W-what did you say your name was?" The girl asked.
"I didn't..." The man said. "Its Clyde, why?"
"C-Clyde?" the girl said "I-I have to go..."
"Why?" Clyde asked. "Wait...your the girl with the trilby hat! Connie! Wait!"
The girl ran away before he could question her further. She eventualy came to an old junkyard.
"Ah" She said. "Home sweet home..."
After running away from the orphanage, the little girl hid in a nearby junkyard. She was very hungry, but didn't have ANY money...
"I'm telling you, I need that part!" She heard a man say.
"An dI'm telling you, it'd take forever just to find one specific car part in this big pile..." Another man said. "Especialy an ENGINE SPROCKET..."
"But this is the ONLY place I could find one!" The man pleaded.
"Just get outa here..." The other man said. The girl sighed and looked down...and saw a sporcket? She decided to play guardian angel for the day...She picked it up and ran to the man.
"Hey mister, is tihs what your looknig for?" She asked.
"Hm? OH MY GOD!! YES!! YES!!" The man shouted excidedly. "How much do you want for it?"
"How...much?" The girl pondered the question. Should she REALY take this mans money for a good deed?
"I'll give you $200 for it!" The man said. Yes, the answer was yes...as she was taking the mans money and counting it, she thought to herself: "This could be the beggining of a BEAUTIFUl future...
